Hole 1 - STRAIGHT OPENER · DEEP SWALE OFF TEE
Fairway dives, then rises to the green
Par 4 - 409 / 388 / 372 yds.
Tee Shot
Before you head to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends checking out the hole location and green complexes on the 9th and 18th hole, which are near the clubhouse. The hole usually plays downwind, but beware of the occasional Santa Ana winds that can drastically affect your ball flight. The air this much thinner here than the coast, so you can expect your ball to carry normal distances here. Off the tee, the fairway immediately drops into a deep swale, levels back out at 145 from green. Bunkers both sides — LEFT begins at 162, RIGHT at 165 from green. FAVOR THE RIGHT. All players: aim right-center; the slope brings it back. Long hitters: carry the swale entirely with driver (~240+). Mid/high handicap: 5/7-wood or hybrid is plenty — accuracy over distance on this opener. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
