Hole 1 - Downhill, Dogleg Left
Ease into the round before elevation changes

Par 4 - 435/421/400 yds.

Tee Shot
Black Gold starts you with a relatively wide, welcoming fairway that encourages you to pull out the driver. However, it requires a straight shot as rolling foothills flank the edges. Because Black Gold sits in the foothills of Orange County, the prevailing daytime wind is a southwesterly sea breeze that blows in from the coast toward the mountains, so this hole will play downwind. From the tee this hole plays downhill to a wide landing area. Favor right of center as to avoid the large fairway bunker on the left. The entire left rough is well below the fairway and should be avoided due to the severe side hill lies. The trap on the left can be cleared with a drive of 248 yards from the black tees, 233 yards from the blue tees, and 213 yards from the white tees. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
