Par 4  -  423 / 396 / 370 yds.

Tee Shot
Pete Dye does not waste any time challenging the player and testing his/her IQ. The first tee is deceivingly tight through the palms on the left and right sides. These trees rarely come into play, so ignore them and have laser-like focus on your target left-center of the fairway. The wind is tricky here in Ponte Vedra and switches during the day. The first hole will play into the predominant morning breeze and downwind in the afternoon. Use the tall palm trees to help you gauge the wind, as the stadium mounds can alter the wind perception.

Low handicap: Stepping up and piping driver on this opening hole from a tight window from the back tees is a power move and sets the tone for the day. It's not completely necessary, and fairway wood is a good play, especially with dry, downwind conditions.

Mid-High handicap: This is the first of several intimidating tee shots that you will completely own today by picking very specific targets, swinging within yourself, and hitting the right club. A fairway hit today is a win, and you are going to stack the wins. So start off right by hitting the straightest club in your bag, whether it be driver, 5-wood, or 7-iron. Build confidence and get that first win.
