HOLE 1 - BLUE MONSTER'S AWAKENING
Miami's legendary PGA Tour stop

Par 5  -  529 / 504 / 481 yds.

Tee Shot
Before embarking on this Miami classic, take a moment to swing by the 9th and 18th greens and scope out their features and the daily pin placements. This will give you an edge when visualizing your approach shots into these key holes.

The fairways here are long and expansive, but well guarded by strategically placed trees, bunkers, and water hazards. On this first drive, favor the left-center of the fairway to avoid the penal bunkers in the right rough. There are some trees that will mess with drives too far left so let's pick a laser-like target down the left-center that is so sharp, even a mis-hit will result in a shot not bothered by these hazards.

Spring/Summer prevailing winds will result in a steady headwind or left-to-right crosswind, while Fall/Winter blows the opposite way, resulting in a tailwind or right-to-left crosswind. CaddyTips® recommends teeing the driver a bit lower into the wind for a more controlled trajectory and a bit higher to let it sail on this par 5.

Low handicap: long hitters can challenge the right side and take the bunker out of play with a bomb of 275 in the air, making this a reachable par 5. Mid-high handicap: This is a three-shot hole, so play accordingly. CaddyTips® often recommends visualizing playing the hole in reverse, starting with your favorite and most successful club to hit into the green, and then drawing up a game plan for reaching that yardage. Bottom line is driver is not necessary off this tee, so choose a club that you have the most confidence in and can execute your reverse game plan.
