HOLE 1 - ALLIGATOR ALLEY
Tight tree-lined parkland opening hole
Par 4 - 396 / 366 / 337 yds.
Tee Shot
Start off with a power move by driving by the 9th and 18th green complexes to scope them out and locate the pin placements. This will help you visualize your approach shots on these holes and set you up for success.
Do not let the tee shot intimidate you, as you are going to pick such a specific target that even if you mis-hit it, you will still be in play. Lateral hazard takes a miss right out of play, so CaddyTips® recommends teeing it up on the right side of the tee box so that your angle of attack off the tee statistically helps take the right out of play. Live oaks guard the left side of the fairway, but they can be manageable. The trees can guard the wind, but it will move the ball left-to-right if it is up. Use the moss in the treetops to gauge the wind, as throwing up grass and looking at the flag won't help much.
Low handicap: there is little to no value to hitting driver here, even with an aggressive mindset to attack the first hole. This is not a "greenlighter." Be patient, hit a fairway wood, and make birdie with your wedge or putter. Mid-high handicap: You will attack these intimidating holes by wearing them out with your "boring" fairway wood and hybrid shots to the middle of the fairway...this should be your mindset, starting here.
