Hole 1 - SUPERB OPENER, WATER DOWN RIGHT
Palmer & Nicklaus start you with a statement
Par 4 - 426 / 399 / 381 yds.
Tee Shot
Before you head to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends checking out the hole location and green complexes on the 9th and 18th holes, which are near the clubhouse. The prevailing easterly/southeasterly winds blowing off the Florida coast make this hole generally play into the wind. Target for all players is LEFT-CENTER fairway on this superb opening hole. Water starts short and runs the ENTIRE RIGHT side. The right bunker ends 240 back (215 black · 200 blue · 190 white); the optimal target is the through fairway bunker at 305 back (280 black · 265 blue · 255 white). Expect the shot to release slightly RIGHT — the fairway slopes that way. All players: the through-fairway trap is the aiming line, not a hazard to fear — the right slope feeds the ball back toward center, so commit left of it and let the slope work; the entire right side is water and must be avoided. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
