HOLE 1 - ALOHA GATEWAY
Scoring opportunity to start

Par 5  -  487 / 470 / 427 yds.

Tee Shot
Prior to starting your round, take a spin to the backside of the clubhouse, where you will see the 9th and 18th greens. Take note of the protection, undulation, and pin placements. This will help you visualize your approach shots on these pivotal holes and set you up for success.

The course designer, Ted Robinson, gives you a good chance to get the round off right with this short par 5. An emphasis is placed on accuracy off the tee with OB stakes lining the left side and a cluster of bunkers in the right rough. The Hawaii Tradewinds should help you on this hole, which makes it even shorter when the wind is up.

Low handicap: Set the tone early by hitting driver right up the middle. No need to cook it here, as a cruiser swing will still result in a manageable 2nd shot to the green.  The really long knockers may be able to reach with a three-wood off the tee, especially downwind. Mid - High handicap: if the driver is the strongest club in your bag, you might want to give it a go here. A good rule of thumb is if you think you will hit the fairway 8/10 times with your driver, then go for it. Otherwise, a fairway wood or hybrid is just fine for this 3-shot hole. All players: CaddyTips® recommends teeing the ball slightly higher with your driver when the wind is blowing. This will help you hit it higher without trying and ride the wind. Be precise with you target and take dead aim.
