Here is a snippet from the We-Ko-Pa Cholla Course CaddyTips®

HOLE 1 - Aim at the Bunker
A bowl green that gathers — and one that runs away
Par 4   351 / 332 / 312 yds

Tee Shot
As you are walking to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends taking a look at the 9th green, and its pin position, along with the 18th green, which is on your way. This will give you a preview of your upcoming approach shots to those holes and help you visualize a successful shot.

Your target off this first tee is the middle bunker on this opening dogleg-left over desert. The middle trap sits 265 Cholla (250 Purple / 230 White). The far-left corner of the waste area can be carried by long hitters with a carry of 250 Cholla (230 Purple / 215 White) — a risky play, not the smart one. All players: the bunker line is both safe and aggressive, depending on placement. Mid/high handicap: select a fairway club, and the target is the middle trap. Swing with ease, and let's start the round with a fairway hit in regulation.

The typical prevailing wind in the Scottsdale/Fort McDowell area blows from the southwest, which should help carry the ball a bit downwind, especially off an elevated tee box, so make sure to consider that the ball might fly 5-7 yards farther, and that is not including any first tee adrenaline. This is a good opportunity to cruise a nice full swing, focusing on contact and your target.
