Here is a snippet from the Tilden Park Golf Course CaddyTips®
Hole 1 - Straight Uphill
Plays 30 yds. longer than posted
Par 4 - 411 / 404 /401 (par 5) yds.
#1 HANDICAP—A CHALLENGING START
Called one of the most challenging starting holes in the Bay Area — 411 yards straight uphill to an elevated, shallow green. Plays nearly 30 yds. longer than the number. Trust the extra club and commit.
Tee Shot
All players: Target center to LEFT-center fairway. The fairway is steeply pitched RIGHT — plan for your shot to release in that direction. Swing within yourself and do not let the uphill slope make you overswing. Low handicap: For RH, a draw shape works best with the slope; a fade ends up in the right rough, and of course vice versa for LH. Mid/high handicap: Fairway wood or hybrid for accuracy — distance helps less here than placement, since the hole plays uphill anyway. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
