Hole 1 - Cypress Welcome
No bunkers — a gentle handshake to start
Par 4 - 395 / 379 / 350 yds.

Tee Shot
Some of the OLDEST CYPRESS in California line the entire right side. NO fairway bunkers — this is the gentle handshake. The ideal target is left-center, as the right cypress wall is unforgiving and should be avoided. Long hitters: driver up the left half and avoid fading the ball too much here—brings the cypress into play. Mid handicap: 3-wood at the left center; tee shot accuracy matters here and will pay dividends, distance does not. High handicap: hybrid or 5-wood at the left center; just be in the fairway to start the round well. Remember that the air is thick in the Bay Area, so expect your ball to travel 5-7 yards less. Do not expect a lot of roll either, all shots should be played to carry yardages. This tee shot will typically play into the prevailing ocean winds, so keep that in mind as well. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
