HOLE 1 - Tom-A-Hawk
Bends left — fly it or lay back
Par 4 413 / 380 yds.
Tee Shot
As you make your way over to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends checking out the green complex and pin placement on number 18 for reference later in the round. There will be instances throughout your round where you may peek over at an upcoming greens and get a preview of the pin location, which will help your visualization on that approach shot.
This hole starts with a left bend, and beware, because the tees are set toward the RIGHT side, which have a tendency to have players aim in the wrong direction toward a right fairway bunker at 265 Raptor / 230 Palo Verde. A LEFT fairway bunker is also in play -carry it with 260 Raptor / 230 PV. Aim at a saguaro silhouette on the ridgeline beyond the green to align your sightline above the horizon. Double-check your alignment. All players: if not flying the left bunker, target just RIGHT of it — the safe gap. Long hitters: carry the left bunker cleanly for the inside angle.
During spring and summer, the predominant wind is W/SW, resulting in a headwind; however, the prevailing wind switches for fall/winter and blows N/E, resulting in a tailwind.
