HOLE 1 - Opening Dogleg
Safe is left-center — the right side hides teeth
Par 4 - 408 / 398 / 361 yds.
Tee Shot
This Tucson classic was once the famed Sheraton El Conquistador and is now owned by the town of Oro Valley. Before you head over to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends that you drive by the 9th and 18th greens near the clubhouse to spy on the pin placements and green complexes. This will help you form the approach shots on these holes in your mind's eye.
For your first tee shot of the day, target is LEFT-CENTER of the fairway for the safest line on this opening dogleg right. Bunkers and trees are hidden from view on the RIGHT. From the back tees a shot of 250 yds. carries past the bunker just right of the fairway (225 from the gold, 200 from the silver). Shots hit too far LEFT can go through the fairway . Long hitters: no need to chase distance into blind sand — a fairway wood on the left-center line is plenty. Good target: with no markers out here, take dead aim at the Pusch Ridge skyline.
During spring/summer, the hole plays into the wind, but this switches for the winter months. CaddyTips® recommends teeing it higher downwind and lower into the wind. And at 2,800 ft elevation, you can expect the ball to fly a bit farther.
