Here is a snippet from the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course CaddyTips®
Hole 1 - THE OPENING ANGLE
Left-center sets up the green
Par 4 - 410 / 366 / 341 yds.
Tee Shot
Before you head to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends checking out the hole location and green complexes on the 9th and 18th holes, which are near the clubhouse. The common, prevailing wind direction in the Scottsdale area—especially during the afternoon when winds pick up to 15–20 mph—blows from the West or Southwest, meaning that this hole normally plays into the wind. A shot to the LEFT-CENTER of the landing area sets up a nice angle to hit at the green. The fairway is at its widest 140 yds. from the green; it ends 295 yds. from the TPC tees, 245 Blue, 225 White. All players: angle, not distance, is the whole opener — left-center is the only line that opens this green. Long hitters: mind the fairway ending at 295 from the tips; a 3-wood that finds the wide 140 yard zone beats a driver run-through. Mid/high handicap: a controlled club to the left-center; this course rewards position from the very first swing. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
