Tee Shot
Before you swing, three rules govern all eighteen holes here. One: the ground is firm and the ball runs. There is 200 feet of sand under tawny fescue fairways, so plan the second bounce rather than the carry. Two: almost every hole turns right to left — aim further right than feels natural, especially if you fade it. Three: the greens are creeping bent grass, firm and tightly mown, with bold interior contours and severe runoffs at the edges. Grain is a minor factor next to slope out here; on every green in this guide, gravity is the read.
Now the wind. This is an exposed dune site with the trees cleared off the hillsides, and it blows. Visitors regularly play in 20 to 30 mph. Because the routing turns, you will play into it, across it and down it inside the same nine. The 9th, 10th and 17th typically play into the prevailing wind; the 4th, 13th, 14th and 18th typically play down it. Those are your calibration points — check the flag on every tee.
A generous opening hole at 332 yards that flows right to left around a sandy expanse, and it faces the same wind you just felt on the range, so you already have your first reading. Best angle: the tighter line down the left, closer to the sand. The green sits at an angle that genuinely rewards challenging it, and the bailout right leaves you working across the green rather than into it.
Low handicap: 3-wood or long iron at the left edge of the short grass— the green's interior contours make the angle worth more than 30 yards.
Mid & High Handicap: hybrid to the middle-right of the fairway and accept the longer wedge; this is a generous start and there is no need to force it.
