Tee Shot
Prior to your round, make sure you are prepared for the elements: have plenty of towels, an umbrella, rainwear, and even hand warmers. The conditions at Pacific Dunes can be brutal. It can be a test of survival, so be patient and navigate the conditions as best as you can. Similar to its original counterpart, Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes has a relatively benign opener. Wind: typically downwind in summer NW; into the wind in winter SW, so CaddyTips® recommends teeing your ball a bit lower into a headwind and a bit higher with a tailwind. Depending on the wind, this can be a fairway wood or long iron off the tee to a generous landing area. All players: the fairway landing zone is generous — gauge your tee shot to leave 100-125 yds. in. Don't reach for driver if you don't need it. Long hitters: driver leaves a flip wedge but isn't necessary. Mid/high handicap: hybrid or 3-wood up the middle. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
