Hole 1 - SLÍ NA FIRINNE MEANS WAY OF TRUTH
Narrow and fast
Par 4 - 446 / 390/ 360 yds.
Tee Shot
Before you head to the first tee, CaddyTips® recommends checking out the hole location and green complexes on the 9th and 18th holes, which are near the clubhouse. The prevailing winds in Kinsale, Ireland, are westerly and southwesterly, so this hole will likely play with a left-to-right wind or slightly downwind. Much of the course is exposed on the cliffs 200 feet above the sea, so CaddyTips® recommends practicing and preparing to put the ball back further in your stance to keep it low throughout this round. The air is thick here, and the ball will travel 3-5 yards less just from this factor alone. All players: Target center to left center
fairway off the tee, the ideal spot for your
ball to land will be left of the two bunkers that
guard the fairway on the right. The left side
of the hole past the bunker in the left rough is marked as OB, so don’t take too cautious a line on the left. A shot ending 250 yds. from the black tees (230 yds. blue/200 yds. white) will remain short of the bunker on the left. Longer hitters may be able to fly the trap, a shot carrying 280 yds. from the black tees should fly the trap (255 yds. blue/230 yds. white). CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
