Hole 1 - Dogleg Left Opener
Bunker eats the inside corner
Par 5 - 555 / 535 / 498 yds.
Tee Shot
Welcome to the esteemed O-Club, risk-reward hole right out of the gate for the long knockers. This shot will play downhill, but not enough to affect club selection. Ideal target is the CENTER-RIGHT of the fairway. The large bunker guards the LEFT side, starting at 245 Black (225 Blue / 190 White). Aggressive line: long hitters only can carry the bunker with a 300-yd shot from Black (280 Blue / 245 White). Where to miss: right is fine - the fairway runs left-to-right, so right misses kick toward the center. Avoid: the left bunker - it's penal AND blocks the second-shot line. Low handicap: driver right-center, set up a layup or eagle look. Mid handicap: 3-wood right side to ensure the short grass. High handicap: fairway wood or hybrid down the right - this hole rewards a true three-shot strategy. Remember that the air is thick in the Bay Area, so expect your ball to travel 5-7 yards less. Do not expect a lot of roll either, all shots should be played to carry yardages. This tee shot will typically play into the prevailing ocean winds, so keep that in mind as well. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
