Here is a snippet from the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course CaddyTips®
Hole 1 - Little Tombstone
First of back-to-back par 3s — set the tone
Par 3 - 146/ 141 yds.
Tee Shot
Short and simple, but don't let the simplicity fool you. Bunker LONG and MOUNDED ROUGH protect the RIGHT side. Where to miss: short-left is the safe miss — leaves a straightforward chip back uphill. Avoid long right at all costs — that combo brings the bunker AND a fast downhill recovery into play. Plays LEVEL , but do take into consideration that the air is thick by the coast, and you should expect your ball to fly 3-5 yards less. This hole will normally play downwind or crosswind from right to left. Green is 24 paces deep. Critical: warm-up swing matters here — first hole of the round is a par 3 because of a 1960 re-routing, so jump
straight in cold. Low handicap: short iron at the center. Mid handicap: mid-iron, aim at the heart of the green. High handicap: hybrid
or long iron should be the play. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
