Tee Shot
The air is thin out here in Lompoc, so the ball will carry nicely. But La Purisima is infamous for the strong winds which blow west-northwest, meaning most of the front nine, including hole one, will play downwind, so choose your club accordingly. There is a hidden pond right off the fairway that is invisible from the tee. Target left-center to avoid it. Stay short of the pond with no more than 275 Blue (265 White/Gold). Low handicap: driver down the left-center sets up the longest second. Mid handicap: 3-wood to a comfortable lay-up yardage. High handicap: 5/7-wood or hybrid down the middle - get in the fairway to get some rhythm going and play the hole as a true three-shot hole. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
