General Tips to play The Olympic Club Ocean Course

Every hole at The Olympic Club Ocean Course is lined with majestic cypress trees. This places an emphasis not only on accurate driving, but position in the fairways. Follow the Caddytips and you will be positioned with the proper angles into the greens. There is a grain pull at The Olympic Club Ocean Course, but not towards the ocean. Everything will pull slightly towards the lake to the right of the eighth fairway. Wind will be a factor here. A knockdown or punch shot may prove useful, especially in afternoon rounds. Take your time judging the wind on holes 5, 7 and 10, as the wind tends to swirl through the valleys at The Olympic Club.

Here is a snippet from the Caddytips from The Olympic Club - Ocean Course:

    Hole 1
    Dogleg left – par 5 – 555/535/498 yds.

Tee shot: Target center to right center fairway on this dogleg left par 5. The left side of the fairway is guarded by a large bunker that begins 245 yds. from the back tees (225 yds. #2/190 yds. #3). Long hitters maybe able to carry the bunker, from the back tees a shot of 300 yds. will carry the trap (280 yds. #2/245 #3). Expect shots to hit and release to the left as the fairway runs in that direction.

Second shot: An ideal lay up will be aimed center fairway and played to carry to 130-115 yds. from the green (this will remain short of the bunker on the right). The trap on the left side of the fairway sits 75 yds. from the green. If you elect to go for the green in two the shot will play true to the yardage and maybe run up from the left side of the green.

Approach shot: This shot will play level but is all carry, as the green is slightly elevated. The hole is also defended by two bunkers short left. The green is 25 paces deep.

Green: Slopes from back to front with a subtle ridge separating the green into left and right sections. The right side of the green tilts mainly from left to right, while the left side pulls from right to left. From the fairway the grain on this green grows to the left.
