Here is a snippet from Pinehurst No. 4 Golf Course CaddyTips®

HOLE  1 - THE OPENER
A long start, and the course is still introducing itself
Par 4  -  450 / 404 / 382 yds.

Tee Shot
The round opens with real length rather than a gentle handshake - 450 yards from the back tee, rated the seventh most demanding hole on the card. There is no formal rough anywhere on this course, so the tee shots are about placement for approaches rather than avoiding the rough.

Target line: the center of a generous fairway, using the width Hanse built into nearly every tee shot on this course. Pick a very specific target, preferably in the distance; get as detailed and sharp as you can. That will help you stay focused on this abundant landing area.

Low handicap: driver down the middle. On a hole rated this demanding to open with, position matters more than a heroic line, and the fairway here is wide enough that there is no reason to tighten your dispersion with a shorter club.

Mid & High Handicap: a 3-wood or hybrid off the tee will increase your odds of hitting your tight target - if you're genuinely comfortable and accurate with driver, this wide open fairway is a good place to use it. Remember the course plays longer than the card in general here - the elevation change across this property is real, so do not be surprised if this feels like more than 450 yards.
