General Tips to play Black Horse Golf Course

Black Horse Golf Course is a tree-lined golf course and errant tee shots will be punished. Black Horse Golf Course is long, but accuracy is a must off the tee. Wind will be a factor here. Remember that the wind tends to swirl amongst the large cypress trees so take care in judging how the elements will affect your shot. Caddytips recommends teeing the ball a ¼ inch lower when hitting drives into the wind, and ¼ higher when driving downwind. And remember the old adage, “if its breezy, swing easy.” The fairways on Black Horse Golf Course are extremely undulating, practice hitting off of uneven lies to prepare for the shots that you will face on the course. Although the greens are new, they are bent grass and you will notice a general pull towards the ocean. If you are ever unsure of the break, look to the coast as the ball will likely pull very slightly in that direction.

Here is a snippet from the Caddytips from Black Horse Golf Course:

    Hole 8
    Straight – par 5 – 550/520/482 yds.

Tee shot: Aim straight down the middle and let it rip on this exciting par 5. The tee shot plays 1½ clubs downhill and the fairway bunker on the right sits 270 yds. from the black tees (240 blue/200 white). Longer hitters may want to favor the left half of the fairway as this will bring this bunker out of play. Be sure to check the wind as it may have a dramatic effect on this elevated tee shot.

Second shot: An ideal lay up will be aimed center fairway and played to end 125-100 yds. from the green, this will carry past the cross bunkers and the other bunker in the right rough. If you elect to go for the green in two the shot will play ½ club uphill.

Approach shot: This shot will play true to the yardage but is all carry to a slightly elevated green. Two bunkers short right protect the hole; long of the green is safe but may present a challenging chip back onto the green. The green is 38 paces deep.

Green: Slopes from back to front and right to left with a collection area in the left center portion of the green.
