General Tips to play PGA West TPC Stadium Course

PGA West TPC Stadium Course plays very long so Caddytips recommend sharpening your driver and long irons prior to playing. There is a lot of water on this course, which brings the risk/reward factor into play. Play smart to avoid the big numbers. Avoid sucker pins and play for the middle of the greens. If you can’t make forced carries, look for a characteristic lay-up area. The greens and fairways are recessed from the rough and surrounded by steep slopes, giving it a “Stadium” type feel. The PGA West TPC Stadium Course is known for their deep bunkers especially around the green. There are some bunkers that are over 15 feet below the green. Practice these deep bunker shots on their range where they have a similar trap.

Here is a snippet from the Caddytips from PGA West Stadium Course (TPC):

    Hole 17
    Island green – par 3 – 168/146/131 yds.

Tee shot: The famous ‘Island Green.’ Be sure to check out the Lee Trevino plaque located near the tees. This is one of the most famous shots in the history of competitive golf. The green is surrounded by rocks and water and is guarded by a small bunker front left. Get two distances here when choosing club selection: distance to carry the water and distance to the pin. The green is 30 paces deep. This shot will play ½ club downhill. Take a deep breath, visualize your success and trust your swing.

Green: Slopes from back to front due to a small incline in the middle of the green caused by a ridge. There is a similar undulation in the front part of the green as well.
