General Tips to play Poppy Hills Golf Course

The fairways at Poppy Hills Golf Course are very undulating, be prepared to hit shots from uneven lies. Every hole at Poppy Hills Golf Course is tree lined and accuracy will always take a precedent over distance. The greens have a lot of slope. You will be hitting a lot of double breaking putts and proper speed is all important. There is a minor grain influence; you will likely notice it on shorter putts (7-15 ft. range). Use the Caddytips to help read the grain into your putts.

Here is a snippet from the Caddytips from Poppy Hills Golf Course:

    Hole 4
    Double dogleg – par 5 – 550/513 yds.

Tee shot: The safe play off the tee will be aimed left center and hit to land short of the bunker through the fairway, which sits 270 yds. from the blue tees (235 white). A more aggressive play will be to favor the right and carry past the bunker on the right corner. If you choose this option you must carry the ball 255 yds. from the back tees (220 white). If you cannot reach this green in two aim left center.

Second shot: The ideal lay up will carry past the second bunker on the left and favor the right side of the hole, thus ensuring a clear shot into the green. A shot hit on this line should be played to end 75 yds. from the green. If you can’t carry the ball to this distance just be sure to keep the ball right of the trap and you will have a good angle to attack the green from (the trap starts 110 yds. from the green). If you elect to go for the green in two the shot will play 1 club uphill and should favor a right to left ball flight.

Approach shot: Shot will play ½ club and is all carry to an elevated green. The hole is heavily bunkered on the left, while right is fairly open, but will leave a downhill chip. The green is very large 41 paces so pin position will be key in determining actual yardage.

Green: Slopes left to right and back to front with a subtle ridge creating a tier back left. The grain will pull towards the front of this green.
